The brewery is located in Vancouver on Granville Island, an area that is surrounded by an ocean inlet with a gorgeous view. One of the design ideas, “Island Cerveza,” was developed from a seaplane, which is symbolic of the Vancouver coastal area. The genre of the seasonal beer is a light lager, with no additional colour or any specific flavours.
According to the manager of the brewery, the main targets were urban women who are around 24 to 35 years old. The seaplane design came up for me right at the beginning when I started to work on this project. I have also considered that the seaplane design looks more masculine.

SKETCH
I sketched some things that reminded me of beer and the Vancouver area, such as hops with a boat, a seaplane, and a lighthouse. I tried to sketch several views of a seaplane, like from the front, and from the side. At the same time, I realized that the wings of the seaplane worked well for making a horizontal rectangular label.
TOUCH UP
The top right image was made using Adobe Photoshop to cut it out except for the body. It’s also edited with Contrast, Shadow, White Balance, and Colour Range. The bottom right image was edited with the Lasso tool, Threshold, and Colour Range, and I made a path for editing it with Adobe Illustrator.
